Top 5 most affordable Ottoman beds

Ottomans are the ultimate beds for built-in storage because they use the entire mattress underside as a storage area. Lift the platform, and you will have access to storage space the same width and length as your mattress.

The platform stays open on hydraulic gas struts, and there are several configurations to choose from:

  • End-opening ottomans open from the foot end of the bed and are best for middle-of-the-room placement.
  • Side-opening ottomans open from one side – perfect for against-the-wall placement and bedrooms with angled ceilings.
  • Half-opening ottomans open just 50% of the base from the foot end of the bed, which is ideal for bedrooms with low ceilings.

The downside to this fantastic versatility is ottoman beds also come at a price – typically 40-60% more than a divan base with drawers.

The good news is that Bedstar stocks a range of ottomans for low budgets, and our affordable beds start from around £270 for a double.

All these options cost less than £300 for a double:

Urban Beds Abby

The Abby ottoman bed is incredible value, costing £269 for a double and £298 for a king (it is also available in single, small double, and super king).

The black faux leather upholstery is surprisingly high-end at this price point. It has a soft, padded headboard, and the hydraulic struts are set up for fingertip lifting, meaning it takes little effort to access the storage.

Sprung slats mean this ottoman is perfect for sprung mattresses, including open coils, pocket springs, and hybrid technology.

Birlea Berlin

Not a fan of the Abby’s black faux leather? The Birlea Berlin keeps things lighter with white faux leather, which is perfect for a light and airy feel.

White bed frames fit into any interior design, especially the Berlin, with its low footboard freeing up your bedroom’s sense of visual space.

The 24 cm deep storage area is perfect for extra bedding, vacuum-packed clothes, shoes, and other bits and bobs that need a home.

Milan Bed Company Side Lift

The Milan Bed Company Side Lift ottoman, available in black or white faux leather, opens from one side and can be configured during installation.

It has an epic storage space height of 30 cm—perfect for tall items—and the hydraulic struts operate with fingertip control for easy access.

We adore this ottoman’s soft faux leather upholstery and chunky design, which make it perfect for modern and traditional bedrooms alike.

Urban Beds Felix

The Felix offers the ultimate choice with three coloured fabrics – grey, beige, and black. The beige version is perfect for eclectic and mid-century modern spaces, while the grey and black models suit any modern vibe.

With a 32 cm storage space height, the Felix offers more than most other ottomans and sits on gorgeous chrome feet.

We love Felix’s buttoned headboard and footboard and expensive-feeling fabric – it looks and feels more expensive than it is.

Milan Bed Company End Lift

Sleek and modern beds don’t come finer than the Milan Bed Company End Lift with its luxurious grey faux leather, black faux leather, or grey fabric upholstery and 30 cm storage area ideal for your bulkiest stowaways.

The relatively low headboard on this ottoman bed frame means your pillows and cushions take centre stage – dress it with something colourful to create a focal point.

It’s priced at less than £300 for a double and less than £350 for a king, and as with all our ottoman beds, you can add a mattress and save 20%.

You don’t need to spend a small fortune on a high-quality ottoman bed, Bedstar has options under £300 offering fantastic value for money.

Spending a bit more – say up to £500 – gives you more elaborate headboards and a wider range of fabrics, but these are optional luxuries. Save your money and splurge on a better mattress if comfort is your top priority.
