Where to see Father Christmas in Surrey
Christmas seems to start earlier every year, doesn’t it? And if you want to book one of the more popular Father Christmas experiences in Surrey, you really do need to be thinking about it while it still feels far too early to be thinking about Christmas!
Whether you’re after a traditional Santa grotto in Surrey, a bigger Father Christmas experience or something a bit different, there are loads to choose from this year.
When my boys were younger, seeing Father Christmas was always one of those things we tried to fit in during December. There are so many more options these days though. You can still book a fairly traditional grotto, but there are also full-on Christmas villages, farm experiences, Santa trains and even a boat trip to a woodland grotto.
The prices vary massively too. Some of the bigger experiences can easily turn into quite an expensive family day out once you’ve paid for adults as well as children, while there are still a few places where you can see Father Christmas for £10 or less – and even one that’s completely free.
So, if you’re wondering where to see Father Christmas in Surrey in 2026, I’ve pulled together all the options I’ve found so far. I’ve included dates, prices and what’s actually included, to hopefully make it a bit easier to work out which one will suit your family.

Father Christmas experiences in Surrey
Hobbledown Epsom – Santa’s Secret Village
If you’re looking for more than a quick chat with Father Christmas and a present on the way out, Santa’s Secret Village at Hobbledown is one of the bigger Surrey experiences.
It runs from 28 November to 24 December 2026 and takes families on an immersive journey through the Secret Village before a private meeting with Santa. Participating children receive a gift and your ticket also includes a full day at Hobbledown, so you can make much more of a day of it.
There’s also a separate Toddler Santa Experience for children up to five, lasting around 40 minutes rather than the roughly hour-long main experience.
Early-bird child tickets are advertised from £27, with adult tickets from £14.40, although prices vary depending on the date and ticket type.
One practical thing worth knowing is that pushchairs can’t be taken through the experience, and there are flashing lights and special effects.
Best for: families wanting a bigger immersive experience, particularly those with younger children.
Chessington World of Adventures – Christmas at Chessington
Chessington is probably the one I’d look at if you have a mixture of ages and don’t want the entire day to revolve around seeing Father Christmas.
Christmas at Chessington runs on selected dates from 21 November to 24 December 2026, with tickets from £32 per person.
The Christmas Village experience includes an Elf Welcome, writing letters to Father Christmas, a festive Silent Disco, snowy woodland and, of course, a visit to Father Christmas himself. Children with a Christmas Village Passport can also visit the Toy Workshop to receive an early Christmas present.
You also get access to the Theme Park, Zoo and SEA LIFE, with selected rides running, plus Christmas entertainment including a panto.
It’s considerably more than you’d pay for a simple grotto, but you’re getting a whole day out rather than a ten-minute Santa visit.
Best for: families with older siblings who’ll appreciate having rides, animals and other things to do too.
Godstone Farm – Father Christmas at Godstone
Godstone Farm is another one where seeing Father Christmas is part of a much bigger festive experience.
The 2026 event runs on selected dates from 21 November to 24 December. Children get a private family meeting with Father Christmas and choose a present, alongside festive activities around the farm.
The full 2026 price information hadn’t been released when I last checked, so I’ve left that as TBC for now rather than using an old price.
Godstone tends to be particularly well suited to younger children, especially if they’re already at the age where a day at the farm is exciting in itself.
Best for: younger and primary-age children who’ll enjoy the whole farm experience as well as Father Christmas.
Bocketts Farm, Fetcham
Another Surrey farm option is Bocketts, where A Magical Christmas is confirmed to run from 20 November to 24 December 2026.
Father Christmas and his elves will be returning, but Bocketts hadn’t released the complete 2026 experience details and prices when I checked.
This is one I’d come back to before booking because the Christmas experience uses timed sessions and popular dates can go quickly.
Best for: younger children and families who want to combine Father Christmas with a farm day out.
Birdworld, Farnham
Birdworld does things a little differently. Rather than a standard grotto, its Christmas event includes an interactive Christmas Show with Santa.
The 2026 event runs from 19–24 December, with singing, dancing and storytelling as part of the experience and a present for each child.
You can combine it with exploring Birdworld too, making it another option where you’re getting more than a quick Santa visit.
The full 2026 Christmas ticket price was still TBC when I checked.
Best for: families wanting Christmas entertainment alongside their Santa visit.
Rural Life Living Museum, Farnham
The Rural Life Living Museum has confirmed its Santa Special for 2026, with the event beginning from 11 December.
However, the full run of dates, ticket prices and final details hadn’t yet been released when I checked.
I’ve kept it in the guide because the Santa Special itself is confirmed, but this is another entry I’ll update once the museum releases its full Christmas programme.
Best for: families wanting a more traditional Christmas setting.
Garsons, Esher
Garsons is a familiar one for us because we’ve been there loads of times for pumpkin picking over the years, although we haven’t personally tried their Father Christmas experience.
For 2026, Father Christmas will be at Garsons on selected dates from 14 November through to Christmas Eve.
Children get their own meeting with Father Christmas, can use a magical machine to send their Christmas wishes to the North Pole and receive a Christmas gift. Professional photos are available separately.
The 2026 ticket price wasn’t showing clearly when I checked, so that’s another one I’ve left as TBC for now.
Best for: a more traditional Father Christmas experience without turning it into a full theme-park day.
Chessington Garden Centre – The Magic of Christmas
Chessington Garden Centre has been running its Christmas experience for years, and in 2026 the theme is The Story of Chester.
It’s an immersive journey rather than simply walking into a grotto, with Father Christmas at the end of the experience.
Tickets range from £9.50 to £29.50 depending on the ticket type, and bookings are for a specific date and time. Visitors are asked to arrive around ten minutes before their slot.
There are also dedicated SEN sessions, which could make this one particularly useful for families who need a more suitable environment.
Best for: an immersive grotto experience and families looking for SEN sessions.
Chobham Adventure Farm
Chobham Adventure Farm is also running its Magical Christmas Experience in 2026.
The Christmas event combines the farm and play attractions with festive activities, and there’s an option involving a one-to-one meeting with Father Christmas and choosing a present from his Toy Workshop.
The complete 2026 dates and prices weren’t available when I checked, so both remain TBC.
Best for: younger children who’ll enjoy the farm and play alongside the Christmas activities.
Longacres, Bagshot
If you’d prefer something a little simpler than the big immersive attractions, Longacres is worth a look.
Santa’s Grotto costs £19 per child plus a £1.50 booking fee per order, with up to four accompanying adults able to go in free.
Children meet Santa, receive an early Christmas present and take part in the Santa & The Magical Tree activity. Optional professional photographs are available at an extra cost.
The full 2026 run of dates wasn’t available when I checked, so I’ve left those as TBC for now.
Best for: families wanting a straightforward grotto where you don’t also have to buy expensive adult tickets.
Ashtead Park Garden Centre – Santa’s Christmas Pudding Grotto
This may win the prize for the best grotto name.
Santa’s Christmas Pudding Grotto is open on 5, 6 and 12 December 2026.
Tickets cost £17 per child, with accompanying adults free. Babies under 12 months can have an £8 ticket when they’re attending with another paying child.
Children enter the giant Christmas pudding grotto, meet Santa and receive a present. The ticket also includes an Elf Hunt around the garden centre with a small prize, and you can take your own photos.
Best for: younger children and families wanting a traditional grotto without paying for adult tickets.
Santa trains, boats and something a bit different
Not every Father Christmas visit has to involve walking through an elf-filled grotto. There are a few Surrey experiences that make getting to Santa part of the fun too.
Mizens Railway Santa Specials, Woking
For children who love trains, this could be a good one.
Mizens Railway is running its Santa Specials on 6, 13 and 20 December 2026.
Children get a miniature railway ride, a present and a soft drink, while adults get their train ride plus a hot drink and mince pie.
One important thing to know is that children under 12 months can’t travel on the trains because of Mizens’ insurance, although babies are welcome at the site.
The 2026 ticket price is currently TBC, and pre-booking is essential.
Best for: train-mad younger kids.
Father Christmas at Denbies Wine Estate
Another option for little train fans is the Santa Express at Denbies Wine Estate.
It’s confirmed to return during November and December 2026, with children receiving a special passport from Santa before taking a festive train journey through the vineyard.
The exact 2026 dates and prices haven’t been released yet, so this is one to check again closer to booking.
Best for: younger children who love trains but perhaps don’t need a huge all-day Christmas experience.
Basingstoke Canal Santa Cruise, Mytchett
I love the sound of this one because it’s completely different from most of the others.
The Basingstoke Canal Visitor Centre runs Santa Cruises aboard Rosebud, a small covered narrowboat. Families travel along the canal to Santa’s woodland grotto.
The 2026 dates and prices are still TBC, with Surrey County Council saying tickets will go on sale at the end of September.
Parking at the visitor centre is free. The boat only holds a small number of passengers and trips can be affected by weather and water levels, so I’d expect this one to be worth booking fairly quickly once tickets appear.
Best for: something a bit different from a traditional grotto.
Cheap and free places to see Father Christmas in Surrey
Seeing Father Christmas can get surprisingly expensive, especially once you realise some attractions charge almost as much for the adults as they do for the children.
Thankfully, there are still some cheaper options.
Godalming Christmas Festival – FREE Santa’s Grotto
This is the standout if you’re trying to keep Christmas costs down.
The Godalming Christmas Festival takes place on 28 November 2026, and Godalming Town Council has confirmed a free Santa’s Grotto in the Godalming Museum Garden.
It’s open from 10am–4pm, children can meet Father Christmas and there’s even a gift included.
You don’t get a giant immersive Christmas village, obviously, but that’s rather the point. It’s a chance for children to see Father Christmas without spending £20, £30 or more per person.
Best for: a completely free Father Christmas visit.
Hans Christmas Andersen, Godalming
This is another really good budget option.
Father Christmas will be in his grotto at Hans Christmas Andersen’s Van Arnhem Nursery for three weekends during November and December.
It costs just £6 per child, which includes meeting Father Christmas and receiving a gift. Even better, you don’t need to book.
The exact 2026 weekend dates are still TBC, so check before making a special journey.
Best for: a cheap, simple Santa visit with a gift.
Pippbrook House, Dorking
Santa’s Grotto at Pippbrook House runs on 28 and 29 November 2026 and costs £10 per child, with adults going free.
An elf and Mrs Claus welcome children before they meet Father Christmas, have a chat, take their own photos and receive a gift.
Sessions are around ten minutes, so this is very much a traditional grotto rather than an immersive half-day experience.
And actually, sometimes that’s all you need.
Best for: an affordable traditional grotto.
Father Christmas experiences near Surrey
There are also a few Christmas experiences just outside Surrey that are worth considering, particularly if you’re happy to travel a little further for something special.

LaplandUK, Ascot
This is the big one – both in terms of the experience and, it has to be said, the price.
LaplandUK in Ascot runs from 7 November to 24 December 2026, with tickets starting from £60 per person and increasing significantly depending on the date. December weekends are much more expensive, with some dates starting at £155 per person. There’s also a £4.95 booking fee per ticket, plus postage for the invitations.
It’s a full immersive Christmas experience rather than a grotto, with families entering the world of Lapland and eventually having their own booked-group meeting with Father Christmas. Bookings can contain up to eight people.
There’s also a Superstar Day on 25 November, designed to provide a quieter and more accessible experience for guests with access requirements, plus selected BSL-interpreted performances.
One important thing for 2026: the main Ascot booking window has already closed, although limited availability can sometimes appear through returns, so it’s worth checking the official site if you’re hoping to book.
Best for: families wanting to make seeing Father Christmas one of their big Christmas experiences – and who have the budget for it.
Fishers Farm Park, West Sussex
Fishers Farm is just over the Surrey border in West Sussex and is another option if you want to turn seeing Father Christmas into a proper day out.
The Festive Fishers experience runs on selected dates from 6–24 December 2026. There are two main ticket types. Weekday term-time Festive Fun tickets are £18 for adults and £30 for children, while the weekend and school-holiday Ultimate Festive Fun tickets are £20 for adults and £35 for children. Under-twos receiving a gift cost £18 or £20 respectively, and essential companions are free.
The experience includes an exclusive family visit with Father Christmas, a Snowman Showdown activity, making magical reindeer food, finding out whether you’ve made the nice list and choosing/receiving a gift from the North Pole Toy Store. Your ticket also includes all-day entry to Fishers Farm Park from 9:45am–5pm.
Best for: younger and primary-age children if you want to combine Father Christmas with a full farm day.
Watercress Line Father Christmas Express, Hampshire
For children who love trains, this is probably the most substantial Santa train we’ve found.
The Father Christmas Express runs from 12–24 December 2026, departing from Ropley Station in Hampshire. Families travel by steam train from Ropley to Medstead and back, with Father Christmas meeting children on board the train.
Children collect a magic token which they can exchange for a present of their choice at Present Junction when they return to Ropley. There are also additional festive activities before and after the train journey.
Advance tickets are £34.50 for children aged 1–15 and £22.50 for adults, with a £2.50 booking fee. Under-ones can have a £14.50 ticket including a gift but no seat. Christmas Eve costs more, with adult tickets rising to £28.50. Advance booking is essential.
Don’t confuse this with the Watercress Line’s Steam Illuminations. That’s a separate illuminated steam-train experience running from 27 November, and the Watercress Line explicitly says Father Christmas doesn’t appear on that train.
Best for: children who absolutely love trains and families wanting the journey itself to be part of the Father Christmas experience.
Which Father Christmas experience in Surrey should you choose?
There’s such a huge difference between these experiences that I don’t think there really is one “best” place to see Father Christmas in Surrey. It depends on the age of your children, your budget and how much of a day you want to make of it.
If money is the biggest consideration, I’d start with Godalming Christmas Festival, because its grotto is completely free and even includes a gift. Hans Christmas Andersen at £6 and Pippbrook House at £10 are also really good-value options.
For toddlers and preschoolers, Hobbledown is interesting because it has a dedicated Toddler Santa Experience for children up to five. Farm experiences such as Bocketts, Godstone and Chobham should also work particularly well for this age.
For primary-school children, you’ve got the widest choice. This is probably the age where the more immersive experiences at Hobbledown, Chessington Garden Centre and Godstone really come into their own.
If you’ve got older siblings too, I’d be tempted by Chessington World of Adventures. They may have grown out of the Father Christmas bit, but at least there are rides, animals and SEA LIFE to keep them interested afterwards.
For train fans, look at Mizens Railway or the Denbies Santa Express. If you don’t mind travelling a little further, the Watercress Line Father Christmas Express is the bigger steam train experience.
And for something completely different, the Basingstoke Canal Santa Cruise would be high on my list. A boat trip to a woodland grotto sounds considerably more memorable than queueing outside a garden-centre shed!
Other Christmas days out in Surrey
Not every Christmas day out has to involve meeting Father Christmas. Painshill in Cobham is running its The Fairies trail from 28 November 2026 to 11 January 2027, with fairy doors dotted throughout the woodland and seasonal crafts. There’s no Father Christmas experience here, but it could be a nice alternative if you’ve already got your Santa visit booked elsewhere.
We’ve also previously been to Christmas at Kew, which is just outside Surrey and makes a lovely festive evening out. It’s an illuminated trail through Kew Gardens rather than a Father Christmas experience, and we really enjoyed it when the boys were younger. For most of the bigger experiences, yes. Hobbledown, Chessington, Godstone, Garsons and many of the traditional grottos use advance or timed booking.
There are exceptions. Hans Christmas Andersen doesn’t require booking, and Godalming Christmas Festival’s free grotto doesn’t currently require advance booking.
If there’s somewhere you particularly want to visit, I wouldn’t leave it too late. December weekends and dates close to Christmas tend to be the first to disappear.
How much does it cost to see Father Christmas in Surrey?
There’s a huge range. Some community experiences are free, Hans Christmas Andersen costs just £6 per child, while the larger immersive attractions can cost £30 or more per person once adult tickets are included.
It’s worth looking at what your ticket actually includes. Paying more can make sense if you’re getting a full day at an attraction as well as the Father Christmas experience, but you certainly don’t have to spend a fortune just for your child to meet Santa.
More Christmas and family days out in Surrey
Whichever one you choose, I’d book the popular experiences sooner rather than later – particularly if you want a December weekend.
