Best hiking trips in Europe
If you’re not really the person for a long, lazy holiday, but rather spend your free time doing some activities, a hiking trip might be for you!
A hiking trip is good for singles, as well for couples and families who would like to go on a short break in nature. It is perfect for relaxing and unwinding. Take a break from your screen and only take your camera to capture the mesmerising views around you.
For breathtaking sights you do not need to go very far, because Europe has some of the most beautiful hiking trails in the world. Think, for example, about Switzerland. The beautiful mountains and fresh air are perfect for outdoor activities.
Tour du Mont Blanc is the most popular hike in Switzerland. This trail is 105 miles long and goes all the way through Switzerland, France and Italy. If you’re thinking about walking with children or with your dog, you can split up the route and walk as many stages as you like. During this trek, you’ll have stunning panoramic views of the Swiss Alps. Be sure to choose the stages wisely, as the route has many steep ascents and descents.
You’ll be staying in mountain huts along the route. These huts will mostly be shared with other travellers, but if you would like to stay a little more privately, you’ll need to descend and find a hotel in the villages at the foot of the mountains.
Another great hike in Europe is the Alta Via 1. This walk goes through the Dolomites in Italy. During this trek, you will stay in Italian mountain huts called “rifugios” and are similar to the mountain huts in the Alps and Pyrenees.
The Alta Via 1 is the easiest trail in the Dolomites, due to the fact that it does not have any glaciers or difficult climbs, however it can be quite a rocky road. You’ll encounter amazing views of the Dolomites on your way. It’s possible to do this hike with a guide, or by yourself. Make sure to prepare good hiking gear and bring enough snacks, as there are no shops and restaurants in the mountains.
If you want to take it a little closer to home, that’s no problem at all! Great-Britain has many beautiful hikes as well. For example, a famous hike in the South of England is the Cotswold Way. This trail leads you through the iconic English meadows and yellow stoned Cotswold houses.
Would you like to enjoy good weather and walk along the South coast? Then walking the South Downs Way might be a good idea. Walk this route from Winchester and end in the seaside resort of Eastbourne, where you can go for a wim if the weather allows it.
Rather hike in Scotland? Enjoy the West Highland Way. This beautiful trail is 96 miles long, and takes through the iconic Scottish plains. It is truly a great experience that you will cherish for life!
