Review: Beefeater Monkey Puzzle, Chessington

We were recently invited to review our local Beefeater (Monkey Puzzle) in Chessington. We last visited a few years ago when E was a toddler so we were interested to see if it had changed much since then.

Beefeater Monkey Puzzle, Chessington

Beefeater Monkey Puzzle is located in between Chessington World of Adventures and Chessington Garden Centre. It’s a popular place for hungry diners to pop into – especially after a day out at the theme park.

We went for dinner on a Saturday evening and the place, as expected was busy. However, we were quickly taken to our seats and given menus.

Kids Menu

As with most pub restaurants, there is a kids meal deal available. 3 courses and a drink costs just £5.99 which I think is very reasonable. The boys decided to have Nachos and Garlic Bread for their starters and Spaghetti Bolognese and Build Your Own Wraps for their mains.

They were provided with crayons and an activity sheet to amuse themselves with whilst they waited for their food to arrive. The portion sizes were a good size for the boys, although I do think the salmon fillet that E had for his wrap could have perhaps been a little bigger. It may be worth considering ordering an extra starter for older children or for those with big appetites as the portions may not be big enough. (they were fine for mine who are 4 and 7)

For pudding, there are three choices available that are included within the £5.99 price (Fruit Salad, Ice Cream or Yoghurt) For an extra 99p you can choose from the “Premium Pud” section. My boys decided to go with the Mini Chocolate Sundae and the Funny Face Sundae from this section and they went down a treat.

Main Menu

There is a huge selection to choose from the main menu. So much so that Mr H and I didn’t know what to have! In the end, we decided to have Loaded Potato Dippers and Crispy Chicken Wings to start. Followed by the Beefeater Mixed Grill and the Fillet Steak.

It can be a bit hit and miss when ordering steaks in restaurants but Beefeater managed to get them just right. (I always have mine medium and Mr H has his medium rare). The portions were very generous which didn’t leave us much room for pudding!

The Service

The staff were very friendly and although the place was heaving and we did have to wait a while to be served, I could not fault the service. They were short-staffed and due to it being a hot day, a lot of people had come in after their day out at Chessing World of Adventures. Our poor waiter spent the evening running from table to table trying to keep on top of orders and keep customers happy but he did an amazing job.

We enjoyed our meal at Beefeater, the atmosphere was relaxed, the staff were friendly and we really enjoyed the food.

There are over 140 Beefeater restaurants dotted around the UK and most of them have recently undergone refurbishment. If you fancy giving them a try you can find your local restaurant here.
