Useful tips to help your kids achieve better academic results
As a parent, you want what’s best for your children. You want them to have every opportunity in life, and you work hard to provide for them and give them the best possible chance to succeed. But sometimes it feels like no matter what you do, your kids just can’t seem to get ahead in school. You may feel like you’ve tried everything, and you’re just not sure what else to do.
Luckily, there are still some things that you can do to help your child improve their academic performance. To help you out, we’ve put together a list of eight tips that you can use to help your kids achieve better academic results and motivate them to keep doing their best.

Encourage them to set goals
One of the best ways to help your child succeed in school is to encourage them to set goals. When kids have a specific goal that they’re working towards, they’re more likely to stay focused and motivated. Help them to choose realistic goals that they can achieve, and then assist them in creating a plan to reach those goals. This could involve setting weekly or monthly targets or working towards a larger goal such as getting an ‘A’ in a particular subject. You should also help them to break down their goals into smaller, more manageable steps. This way, they won’t feel overwhelmed and will be more likely to stay on track. And once they successfully finish one small task, they will feel a sense of accomplishment that will motivate them to keep going.
Teach them how to use different learning resources
There are a variety of different learning resources available to kids these days, including books, websites, apps, and more. You may also find 11+ exam papers online, which can be a great way to help your child prepare for exams and improve their academic skills. It’s important to teach your child how to use these resources effectively so they can get the most out of them. For example, if they’re using a website to learn about a new topic, show them how to find reliable sources of information. And if they’re using an app or platform to practice a specific skill make sure they understand how it works and what they need to do to improve. Take advantage of a game deck that will keep their attention and make their learning fun. By teaching your child how to use different learning resources effectively, you’ll help them become independent learners who are better able to achieve their academic goals.
Help them to organise their time
One of the biggest challenges that kids face in school is learning how to manage their time effectively. With so many different classes and activities, it can be difficult for kids to keep track of everything and still have time to complete their homework and study for exams. As a parent, you can help your child by teaching them how to organise their time more effectively in a supportive learning environment. Start by helping them to create a daily or weekly schedule that includes all of their commitments. Then, assist them in prioritizing tasks and assigning specific days and times for completing each one. It’s also important to teach kids the importance of taking breaks and not trying to do too much at once. Help them to understand that it’s okay to take a break after finishing one task before starting another. This will help them to avoid feeling overwhelmed and stressed out.
Keep them motivated
It can be difficult for kids to stay motivated throughout the school year, especially when they’re struggling with a particular subject or feel like they’re not making progress. As a parent, you can help your child by constantly reminding them of their goals and encouraging them to keep going. Reward them when they reach milestones or do something well, and provide positive reinforcement whenever possible. It’s also important to avoid putting too much pressure on them or comparing them to other kids. Instead, focus on their progress and praise their effort rather than their achievements. This will help them to feel more confident and motivated to continue doing their best.
Help them to study effectively
One of the best things you can do to help your child succeed in school is to teach them how to study effectively. This involves more than just having them read their textbook or notes from class. Instead, it’s important to teach them how to actively engage with the material and make connections between what they’re learning and real-life applications. There are a variety of different techniques that you can use to help your child study more effectively, so find what works best for them and encourage them to use those methods regularly. You should also create a quiet and distraction-free environment for them to work in and provide them with any resources they need, such as a dictionary or thesaurus.
Encourage them to get involved in extracurricular activities
In addition to helping your child succeed academically, it’s also important to encourage them to get involved in extracurricular activities. This could involve joining a sports team, signing up for an after-school club, or participating in a community service project. These activities provide kids with a chance to explore their interests, meet new people, and learn new skills. They can also help to improve self-esteem and confidence levels. And when kids are well-rounded and have a variety of interests, they’re more likely to be successful in school. Just be sure to help your child find a balance between academics and extracurricular activities so they don’t become too overwhelmed.
Communicate with their teacher
Another important way to help your child succeed in school is to establish a good relationship with their teacher. This will allow you to stay up-to-date on your child’s progress and be aware of any issues that may arise. You should feel free to reach out to the teacher with any questions or concerns you have. It’s also important to attend parent-teacher conferences and participate in other school events whenever possible. This will show your child that you’re interested in their education and willing to support them. And if you have a good relationship with the teacher, you’ll be more likely to get help and guidance when you need it.
Model good behaviour
Finally, one of the best ways to help your child succeed in school is to model good behaviour yourself. This means setting a positive example by being respectful, responsible, and hardworking. It also means staying involved in your child’s education and showing them that you value learning. When kids see that their parents are committed to their education, they’re more likely to be motivated to do the same. So set a good example for your child and let them know that you’re there to support them every step of the way. You can also encourage your child to model good behaviour by talking about the importance of doing their best in school and setting a good example for their younger siblings or friends. This way, they can help to create a positive learning environment for everyone.

As you can see, with a little effort, you can make a big difference in your child’s academic success. Just remember to be supportive, involved, and encouraging, and you’ll help them reach their full potential. With your guidance and support, they’ll be well on their way to making some great academic progress.
