My London: Gorgeous George’s Mama
This week I have the lovely Cassie from Gorgeous George’s Mama sharing her favourite things about London.
What do you love most about London?
I love admiring the architecture and the old and new side by side. There is just so much to take in visually it’s hard to not be inspired. I also love people watching anywhere but in London it’s that bit more special. At Least 50 people or more can cross your path in any one minute in London and I love to just sit still and absorb the crazy madness. That said, I absolutely love retreating home to my calm, quiet country life in mid-Essex.

What’s your most favourite memory of London?
My most favourite memory has to be a ride down the Thames on a RIB tours speedboat, the James Bond package. It was actually a present for hubs from my sisters and I was lucky enough to ride it with him. I screamed my absolute head off and it was so much fun. I’d totally recommend it. They took sharp turns at high speeds and it felt like you could almost skim the water with your hands.
If you had to pick one iconic building in London what would it be?
The London Eye for sure. We always use it as a beacon when we are on a touristy day out in London. We rode it once in the dark and it was scary and amazing, then I was sad to get off and I haven’t been back on since in over 10 years. I really need to. The views over London are phenomenal.

If you could recommend one place that’s off the beaten track and away from the hotspots for someone out of town to visit where would it be?
Borough Market for a completely lush food experience. There are so many food cultures there and the portions are generous, and it all tastes amazing. Somewhere I haven’t yet visited but I know I will love and will still recommend to anyone that loves cats is Lady Dinah’s Cat Emporium on Bethnal Green Road.
Best place you’ve eaten in?
It’s such a toughie but Borough Market is pretty divine, minus the fact you have to just eat and walk or perch where you can in the open air, potentially being intimidated by hungry pigeons. Failing that I love Shake Shack. I’ve tried the one at Covent Garden and in Westfield Stratford and I love reading all about their concept, where everything is sourced from and how they are so much more than a fast food restaurant. They also do lush little red velvet doggy biscuits for your 4 legged friends.

The last theatre productions/show or concert you went to or would like to see?
I haven’t been for several years due to having George and not managing a nighttime babysit session yet. Me and Hubs used to love going to see We Will Rock You and was devastated it ended before we got to see it one last time. It was probably the last London show we saw. Recently I have been to Wembley SSE Arena to see Paw Patrol Live. Such is a classic representation of my life now!
Favourite place to visit on a night out and why?
Again, as a mum to a three-year-old, I may need the question translating, night what now??? I have to admit that I’ve always chosen to have nights out locally as I feel safer, the drinks are cheaper and it’s easier to get home. Night’s out in London have never been on my wish list really.
If you live in London, how long have you lived there for? If not, what makes you visit time and time again?
I don’t live in London but grew up in Dagenham which some class as East London but it’s always just been Essex to me. I now live further out in mid-Essex but I still love days out in London. They are few and far between whilst George has been young as I have back troubles so using a sling/carrier hasn’t always been an option and travelling with a pushchair on the trains is pretty aggravating. I can’t wait to show George more and more of London as he grows older.
We have already introduced him to:
- The Natural History Museum
- Discover – Children’s Story Centre, Stratford
- The London Aquarium
- Tate Modern
- Museum of London
We all absolutely love a walk along the South Bank enjoying the various street performers and artists. George is mesmerised.

And finally a bit of fun – write the first thing that pops into your head!

in the garden.
They’re go-to is always football and they’ve been trying to improve their aim and accuracy with the new Messi Foldable Footlball goal from the #MessiTrainingSystem range.
I love the fact the goal is foldable, making it easy to store away when not in use. It is also lightweight so you can effortlessly pack it up and take it to the park or to a friend’s house.
The Messi Foldable Football Goal retails at £36 and can be purchased from @argos

Thanks for having me as a guest feature in your series Maria. It was a lot of fun to write and reminisce about our times in London, pre and post parenthood.
