How to give your toddler a haircut
Every child is perfect in the eyes of their parents. However, there comes a time when everyone must accept that children, just like adults, need some procedures like hair cutting to look better and feel comfortable. Cutting your toddler’s hair at home can save you some money and help you avoid a stressful situation, as going to a hairdresser may be overwhelming or even scary for some kids.
Below, you will find some helpful tips on how to give your toddler a haircut. You can learn about how to prepare your child for a first haircut, why you should buy professional barber shears, or how long your child’s hair should be. Read on!

Start early
When a child is very young, you can practice cutting their hair with professional scissors with rounded edges. When the child gets older, you can buy a pair of barber shears with sharp blades designed to cut any hair type.
If your child is very small, they will probably love having their hair brushed and cut. Just be sure to hold your kids in your arms during the procedure. If your child is old enough to sit in a high chair or sit on the floor without you holding them, you should still do this procedure with plenty of caution.
You need to use a mirror to see what you are doing if you do not have much experience, as it is easy to cut too much hair. Just remember to take your time and don’t rush the haircutting process.
Prepare your child
Many children don’t like getting their hair cut because they don’t understand what it is and why they need it. You can prepare your child for their first haircut by explaining to them what you are going to do and why. For example, you could say something like, “I am going to cut your hair because the hair gets into your eyes and makes it hard for you to see things. Don’t worry; it won’t hurt!”
If your toddler resists having their hair cut, try distracting him or her by turning on more entertaining cartoons or videos so your kid can concentrate on another thing while you cut their hair.
Tips for cutting hair
There are many ways to give your toddler a haircut. The easiest way is to cut off all of their hair. Some parents choose this method because it is quick and simple, and it is also the cheapest option if you do not want to buy special tools for cutting your child’s hair. However, you should be aware that this method works best when the toddler has very long hair.
Another method that you can use is called a “bowl cut.” It is suitable for kids with any face structure and makes them look even more adorable than ever. This method works best when your toddler has long bangs that cover their eyes. If this is the case, make sure to trim them, so they frame your child’s face instead of covering the eyes. This method is also best when your toddler has short hair, and you want to get rid of it quickly without spending money on specialised tools.
One of the most common ways to give your toddler a haircut is by cutting it layer by layer. This method takes longer than the others but gives you more options when working with your toddler’s hair after the haircut. You can choose between an even cut or a textured cut, depending on what suits your kid most or how they would like it to be.
This method works best when you want to keep some of your toddler’s hair long and only adjust its length by cutting some of it off. It is also helpful if you’re going to give your toddler an asymmetric hairstyle, as this method allows you to cut their hair unevenly on both sides.
If you are using this method, make sure that your child sits still while you are cutting their hair, or they might end up with patches where there was uneven hair length before the haircut.
Comfort
Another important thing when giving a toddler a haircut is making sure that they feel comfortable when sitting in front of the mirror during the process. Give your child breaks from sitting in front of the mirror until you finish cutting all of their hair, so they don’t get tired or too hot.
If your child gets too hot, they might become restless and move around, leading to accidents that can ruin the haircut attempt and make the whole process take a lot longer than expected. In order to keep your child cool and comfortable, turn on the fan and open the windows so it is cool inside the house while you work on your kid’s hair.
It would also be helpful to plan a fun activity to do right after the haircut to keep your kid excited to get done with cutting their hair as soon as possible. You may plan to go for a walk later or bake some chocolate cookies together. For the latter, you can buy organic cocoa powder here and make some brownies that will be much healthier than the store-bought ones.
Conclusion
You shouldn’t be scared of cutting your child’s hair at home as long as you do it carefully and make sure that your child is comfortable during the process. Remember to use safe hair cutting tools and techniques, and do not neglect to ask your kids what type of haircut they would like to have.
It may seem insignificant at their age, but asking for their opinion and explaining what you are going to do will allow you to keep your child engaged in the process.
Good luck!

![[AD] The sun has finally made an appearance and the boys have been making the most of it by spending it
in the garden.
They’re go-to is always football and they’ve been trying to improve their aim and accuracy with the new Messi Foldable Footlball goal from the #MessiTrainingSystem range.
I love the fact the goal is foldable, making it easy to store away when not in use. It is also lightweight so you can effortlessly pack it up and take it to the park or to a friend’s house.
The Messi Foldable Football Goal retails at £36 and can be purchased from @argos
