5 reasons to consider travelling to London with no plan in mind
When you go on holiday, it’s fairly normal to create some kind of plan to help you get around. You choose attractions, events, shows to see, and things you want to do. Then you map out a route and a schedule so that you can see everything.
But we’re going to say now that this isn’t always the best way to explore London. In fact, we’re going to give you 5 reasons why you should consider travelling to London with absolutely no plan in mind.
1. There’s always something unique to discover in London
London is always full of surprises. There’s never a dull moment to be had and you certainly won’t need a rigid schedule in order to enjoy the city. In fact, many people regularly come to London for a weekend or a couple of days just to mingle in bars, see their friends, or just walk around to soak in the sights and sounds. If you don’t have any plans, then let fate guide you and go wherever you feel like–you’re bound to find something fun!
2. Walking around is a great way to explore on a budget
Walking around is actually one of the best ways to explore London on a budget. As long as you find accommodation near Shepherds Bush or another major hub, you’ll have countless attractions and experiences just waiting to be discovered within a short walking distance. Don’t hesitate to try new things and don’t be afraid to just walk in one direction to see what you’ll find. Thanks to Google Maps and similar tools, you’re unlikely to get lost.
3. You get to soak in all of the sights and sounds of London
Walking is one of the best ways to experience London because you get to soak in all of the sights and sounds. Whether it’s the noisy double-decker buses passing by or the diverse array of languages that you’ll hear just walking through the streets, it’s an experience of its own and something you have to see and feel for yourself at least once. This is often a much better experience if you visit diverse neighbourhoods such as Camden Town, Chinatown and Brixton.
4. The side streets and alleys are full of surprises
And if you do visit these diverse neighbourhoods, don’t miss your chance of skipping those must-visit attractions and instead, walk down these quiet alleyways and streets that are just full of unique stores, restaurants, bars, and even people. Soho is one of the best examples of this. With many winding streets and narrow pathways, you’re bound to find a quiet little place that you would’ve otherwise missed if you just looked at Google Maps.
5. London always has fun seasonal events going on
London is a city that always has fun seasonal events. It could be flower shows, it could be local bookstore signings or even a sports event at a nearby stadium. Going to these is part of the London experience, so try not to plan too heavily and instead, just go with the flow.
