Coats and jackets are playing a much bigger role in AW17/18. They have been taking centre stage on the runways, acting as feature pieces that do much more than just make up an ensemble. A good coat makes the outfit. And here are this season’s chicest coats and jackets to own.

The Big Overcoat

Bigger is better when it comes to coats. Boyfriend cuts and cocoon styles will always have a place in the winter wardrobe, so don’t be afraid to rock a number that feels like it’s a few sizes up when you have it one. Comfort is everything these days and nothing beats a big overcoat to keep you warm when it’s bitter and cold outside.

Take style inspiration from Attico, Phillip Lim, Bottega Veneta and Christian Dior. Their runways were graced with some of the cosiest coats of the season. Go checkered and get a tie waste like Dior, opt for colour blocks like Bottega, or do like Lim and look pretty in pink!

The Padded Puffer

If you’ve heard to the ‘hygge’ concept, then you’ll understand why puffer jackets are all the rage right now. Because it’s simply not cool to be cold anymore. Nope, it’s actually a little off trend to let your teeth chatter because you are inappropriately dressed. Your wardrobe needs to be weather-ready, especially if you live in the city and need to make those day to day commutes.

Aww to the duffle coat, a trusty little number that looks good on everyone! Everybody shape will look fabulous in the pretty duffle and the button up toggles are just adorable. This style of jacket is also extremely versatile. There are so many ways you can wear this coat. It looks great with jeans and jumper for those casual days, teamed with a pair of Le Chameau wellington boots for a weekend in the country, or style with your favourite tartan skirt for a night in your local.

This is the ultimate everyday outerwear piece that doesn’t look too sporty or casual, striking the perfect balance for almost every occasion.

The Tuxedo Jacket

Tailored jackets were a big hit at Paris Fashion Week. As seen on the runways of Chanel, Stella McCartney, Alexander McQueen, Givenchy, Louis Vuitton and Céline, women’s tailoring is this year’s most empowering look.

Tuxedo styles bring an element of androgyny and there were also references to country-inspired fashion, such as equestrian jackets and the use of British tweed. Or for a bold evening look, opt for a sharp suit in a stand-out colour such as this season’s Siren Red.
