Our summer reads

summer-reads

The boys have had a fun-packed summer with lots of days out but we also have had some dreary weather too. On rainy pyjama days they like nothing better than to chill out at home with some books. Here are some books we read over the summer.

What the Ladybird Heard Next
We loved the original book and even went and to see the stage production which was brilliant. What the Ladybird Heard Next follow-up is just as colourful and fun as the first. Hefty Hugh and Lanky Len are out of jail and are back on the farm up to no good! One again its up to the farmyard animals to foil their cunning plan and save the day!

Sam & Dave Dig a hole
My boys love mud and digging (what boy doesn’t?) so this book was ideal for them. Beautifully illustrated by Jon Klassen and written by Mac Barnett the story really allows your imagination to run away with you. M (aged 2) enjoyed pointing out the dog on every page whilst E (aged 5) found it funny that every time Sam and Dave dug deeper and changed direction they kept missing the obvious!

Maps and Animalium (Welcome to the Musuem)
These are by far a couple of the boys most favourite books. I bought them for Christmas last year and they have been looked at regularly. It’s great for all ages and is almost like a visual encyclopaedia of the world (Maps) and a visual museum (Animalium). My boys can spend hours poring over the pages and pointing out the different types of trains/people for each country and I can see them being really useful for E as he progresses into Junior school.

See Inside Trains
I couldn’t have put this list together without having a train book! Both my boys are obsessed with them and this book is fantastic as it has lots of little flaps where you can find out various information on all the different types of trains and engines through the ages.

NOTE: I was sent What the Ladybird Heard Next and Sam & Dave Dig a Hole in exchange for an honest review.  All opinions are my own, images are from amazon.co.uk
