Mother of the Bride wedding outfits: your questions answered
Being the Mother of the Bride on your daughter’s special day is an exciting, yet daunting experience (not too daunting, don’t panic). And we’re guessing you have lots of questions about what to do on the day of the wedding. Particularly, what you should wear AND of course, what you should avoid wearing. So, we thought it would be best to answer a few of the questions we think you might have:
What style of dress should I wear?
You should wear an outfit that you feel comfortable in and that best suits your shape, so keep that in mind whilst shopping for the outfit for the big day! You don’t even have to wear a dress if that isn’t your style. As long as your daughter is happy with you wearing an alternative outfit (and we’re sure she will be as long as you are) then all is well. And there are hundreds of fantastic shops to buy your outfit from. Ultimately, you should look the part (all eyes will be on you remember) but also feel beautiful and comfortable in what you choose to wear.
What colour should I wear?
Again, this all depends on the colours that feel the best match your skin tone, unless your daughter wants her whole bridal party to wear the same colour of course (lots do actually). The only advice we could give is to avoid the colour black unless told otherwise, as it’s not stereotypically a colour that represents love and light (quite the opposite actually). MOBs tend to stick to brighter colours (light blues, greens, pinks etc.), to complement their daughter’s dress.
How much should my outfit cost?
Depending on the budget you’ve given yourself for the outfit prior to buying it, there isn’t really a set price when it comes to how much your wedding outfit should cost as the MOB. If you’re shopping on a budget, renting an outfit, or buying from the high street could be a great cost-effective alternative for you. Or buy online from bridal boutiques if you’re willing to spend that little bit more on your outfit. As long as you as you feel good, that’s all that matters.
How far in advance should I search for my outfit?
Another question to ask the bride, usually MOBs buy their outfits around the same time the bridesmaids buy theirs so that they all correlate. So, we’d say at least 6 to 8 months before the wedding is a great time to start browsing/planning for your wedding day outfit. Giving you lots of time to focus on helping your daughter plan her big day (and she’ll need it), rather than buying outfits you don’t love in a tizz last minute!
Being the Mother of the Bride is a rewarding experience, there’s no feeling like watching your daughter walk down the aisle to marry the love of her life. So as long as you feel comfortable, that’s all that matters. Happy Shopping!
