Common types of house pests and how to deal with them
If you’re a homeowner, you have likely dealt with any number of pests in your house. You might be wondering if there is anything that can be done to get rid of these pesky critters once and for all. In this article, we will explore some common types of house pests and how to deal with them so you can live free from one more worry.

Ants
Ants are among the most common types of house pests. They can be difficult to get rid of, but there are several ways to do so. One way is to use commercial ant bait. This bait contains a poison that will kill the ants. Be sure to follow the instructions on the bait container carefully, as too much or too little of the poison can be harmful. If you have an ant infestation, it is best to contact a professional pest control company for assistance and find out more about the best way to deal with them. Another way to deal with ants is by using an insecticide spray. However, this should only be used as a last resort, as it can be harmful to both humans and pets if used incorrectly.
Finally, you can also try to seal up any openings where ants might be entering your home. This includes cracks in the walls, ceilings, and floors, as well as around doors and windows. By sealing these openings, you can make it more difficult for the ants to get into your house. Ants are not only a nuisance but they can also be a health hazard. It is important to take steps to get rid of them as soon as possible.
Spiders
Spiders are among the most feared insects in America. While none of them are poisonous, they can be dangerous if too many come into your house at one time. Fortunately, there is an easy way to get rid of spiders that don’t require harmful chemicals or poisons. All you need is household vinegar.
Fill a spray bottle with vinegar and spray the areas where spiders are seen. The acid in the vinegar will kill them on contact. Be sure to also spray around doors and windows, as these are common entry points for spiders. If you have an infestation, you may need to repeat this process a few times, but it is much safer and cheaper than using chemical pesticides.
Bed Bugs
Bed bugs are small, parasitic insects that feed on the blood of warm-blooded animals. They are most commonly found in mattresses, bed frames, and headboards, but can also be found in other areas of the home where people sleep or rest. Bed bugs are not known to carry any diseases, but their bites can cause itchy red welts on the skin.
If you think you may have bed bugs, there are a few things you can do to confirm your suspicions: look for small, reddish-brown bugs around the seams of your mattress and pillowcases; check for signs of faecal matter (black dots) and eggs (white spots), and place a strip of tape over a suspected area and see if it comes back with the remains of any bugs stuck to it.
Cockroaches
Cockroaches are one of the most common pests found in houses. They can be difficult to get rid of, but there are some steps you can take to make it easier. First, remove all food and water sources from the area. This includes any crumbs on the floor or spilled drinks. Next, seal up any cracks or openings in the walls or floors where cockroaches could enter. Finally, use an insecticide to kill any remaining roaches and keep an eye out for any new signs of activity. If these steps don’t work, it may be time to call in a professional.
Rodents
Rodents can be a huge nuisance in your home. They can contaminate food, spread diseases, and cause structural damage. There are several ways to deal with rodents, depending on the type of rodent you have.
If you have a rat problem, consider using a complete rat control kit that includes traps or poison bait along with bait stations and even rodent attractants and protective gear—making the process safer and more effective. They are typically designed for easy, DIY use at home. Be sure to place them in areas where the rats have been seen or heard, and dispose of the dead rats properly. For mice problems, use either snap traps or glue boards. Make sure to place them in areas where mice have been spotted. To keep rodents out of your house all together, seal up any cracks or holes that they could use to enter. Use metal mesh screening for small holes and caulk for larger ones. You can also use a rodenticide to kill any rodents that are already in your home. It is important to deal with rodents as soon as you notice them because they can cause a lot of damage and spread diseases.
Termites
Termites are a common type of house pest that can cause a lot of damage if they’re not dealt with. They can eat through wood, paper, and even plasterboard, so it’s important to deal with them as soon as you notice any signs of an infestation. There are a few things you can do to help prevent termites from invading your home, such as keeping the area around your house clear of debris and making sure all the wood in your home is treated properly.
Additionally, knowing what signs indicate there may be an infestation present will allow you to take action quickly rather than wait until extensive damage has been done. Some telltale signs include small piles of pellets outside windowsills or doorways made up of dirt, wood, and saliva. You can remove them by hand and place them in a jar of water to see if they float (termites will) or dissolve (ants will not). As the weather starts to get warmer, termites are more likely to be prevalent in your area. If you have any concerns that you may have an infestation, it’s best to call a professional to take a look. They’ll be able to identify the pests and help you come up with a plan to get rid of them.

Many different types of pests can invade your home, but by being aware of them and taking the necessary precautions, you can help keep them at bay. Cockroaches, mice, and ants are some of the most common pests, but there are also others like spiders and silverfish that can cause problems. If you do find that you have a pest problem, there are various ways to deal with it.
