8 ways to make your home a healthier place
Your home should be a sanctuary of safety for you and your family. But, aside from ensuring all the kitchen knives are hidden away in drawers and everyone knows not to run with scissors, there is a wide range of things you and your family can do.
And, you don’t need to spend a fortune to make this happen, either! For many households, you can make small but effective changes around the house so you and your family can enjoy a healthier and happier life. Not sure where to begin? Here are eight ideas to get you started.
Improve the air quality
Your home’s air quality might not be something you think about too often, but things like dust, dead skin cells, and pet hair can encourage allergies to flare up and affect your respiratory system. There are ways to overcome this, such as regular vacuuming and polishing to clear away this dust and make your home healthier from top to bottom. It’s also important to vacuum and dust your home regularly and prioritise repairing your HVAC system. This way, you can ensure that the air circulating in your home is clean and healthy, making it a more comfortable and safe environment for your family.
If you want to add something better to your home and make the house attractive and healthy, researching the best indoor plants for clean air can bring some life into your home. With such a range of plants, from low-maintenance to melodramatic, you’ll have an answer for all your clean air needs.
Kick bad habits
No matter who you are or what you do, you will have a bad habit of sorts. Of course, some bad habits are not as bad as others, but they can still affect how healthy your home is. If you want to make legitimate changes to your lifestyle and home, kicking these bad habits is a must.
There are many ways to get over these habits. Some people choose to replace them with a healthy alternative, whereas others will test themselves and go cold turkey. In doing so, you’re not just cutting the bad habit out of your life, you’re also becoming a positive role model for your kids, which means they will not feel influenced by your behaviour.
Improve your sleep
Sleep is an essential aspect of a healthy lifestyle, so you need to find ways to achieve a night of better and deeper sleep. Considering you spend as much as one-third of your life in bed, making your bedroom as comfortable as possible is a good place to start.
A cosy, quiet, and cool bedroom will help you get to sleep easier each and every night. It also needs to be dark enough to cut out any disrupting light, although this can make it difficult to wake up in the morning. Everyone has different needs for their sleep, so find an approach that works for you, and hopefully aligns with your partner’s needs, too.
Test your home
Many unseen problems can affect your home and your family’s health, so it’s important to look out for these possible problems before they become worse. If you live in an old property, there is a significant risk of lead poisoning from paint, whereas other problems can include radon and carbon monoxide.
Now, these problems should not be a significant cause for alarm, and many homes will not encounter these problems. But, getting your home tested, either with a radon or carbon monoxide detector can identify issues and give you some peace of mind. If you are concerned, you can also bring in a professional to test your home.
Filter your water
There are two schools of thought about whether it’s worth filtering water. But, understanding the different types of water can give you an idea of whether you should filter your water.
Filtering your water isn’t just something that fancy homes have, it can remove a range of contaminants, including pollution and remove calcium deposits that lead to hard water. While this won’t affect you, it can cause limescale around the shower and taps, which will make your home look nicer.
Wash your hands
It sounds obvious and simple, especially after the last year and a half, but washing your hands should be a habit that everyone maintains throughout their life. Even if you think you have a strong immune system, there is still the chance that you bring in and pass on bacteria that could affect the rest of your family.
It is especially vital during flu season, even if you and your family have had a flu jab. If you have young kids, perhaps those who aren’t vaccinated against this year’s flu, creating a culture of washing hands regularly will keep them healthy.
Eat healthy foods
A healthy home often begins with what you eat, so filling the fridge and cupboards with healthy snacks rather than sodium-rich and fatty alternatives goes a long way. For one, it introduces your kids to healthy food and normalises it. Second, it means everyone can easily get their five a day.
You can also look for organic food from local retailers rather than supermarkets. Not everyone has the luxury of affording organic foods as they can often be more expensive in some areas. But, if you buy fresh fruit and veg at the right time, you’ll encourage a better diet for you and your family.

Use non-toxic cleaning supplies
Cleaning the home is an essential part of ensuring a healthy household. But, many cleaning products rely on toxic chemicals that can contaminate other areas of your home and cause issues that pass between you and your family members, including your pets.
Therefore, finding safe products that do not include harmful ingredients is the way forward. Recently, there has been a significant push towards organic and ethically sourced formulas that won’t harm your family and make your house one of the cleanest, safest, and most enjoyable places in the world for you and your family.
Home sweet home
If you’ve been looking for ways to dramatically improve your home and your living conditions, these useful healthy home tips are a fantastic place to start. They can help to transform your home for the better and guarantee you and your family can sleep easy knowing that you’ve done everything possible to make your home comfortable.

![[AD] The sun has finally made an appearance and the boys have been making the most of it by spending it
in the garden.
They’re go-to is always football and they’ve been trying to improve their aim and accuracy with the new Messi Foldable Footlball goal from the #MessiTrainingSystem range.
I love the fact the goal is foldable, making it easy to store away when not in use. It is also lightweight so you can effortlessly pack it up and take it to the park or to a friend’s house.
The Messi Foldable Football Goal retails at £36 and can be purchased from @argos
