3 things that bug me about the school run

Having been part of the “school run” gang since last September I have noticed recently a few things that really bug me! Have a read through – do any of these ring any bells with you?
1. Letting your child scoot miles ahead of you and overtaking others
This is my number one bugbear. Children that are let loose on the pavements – thundering past you and your buggy and almost taking out YOUR scooting child in the process. Then you inevitably hear “WAIT FOR ME! STOP!!!!” from their mum or dad behind…. so they then stop in the middle of the pavement right in front of you… and IN.THE.WAY. You then have to manoeuvre said buggy and your child around the annoying child who overtook you whilst there parents are lagging wayyyy behind. grrr….
WHY let them do it? E scoots to school every day and he is allowed to scoot ahead of me BUT he knows not to overtake others because not only do I think it’s rude, he would also end up getting in the way of others walking to school. It’s like a orderly queue the walk to school isn’t it? You don’t push past people right? (or is that just me?)
2. Smoking
On the two days I get to do the school run (thursdays and fridays) most mornings on our way to school we end up walking behind a little girl and her dad. Every day, her dad lights up a cigarette and proceeds to smoke it on the way to school. Every day, I purposely hang back or cross the road because I do not want my boys (or myself for that matter) inhaling second hand smoke. I’m not sure he’s even aware that we do this but generally in my opinion I just don’t think its necessary. E has even asked me before “what’s that steam mummy?” and I have had to explain that the “man with the steam” is smoking and that smoking is of course bad for you and “not healthy” (he recently learnt all about healthy eating and exercise at school so is obsessed with what’s healthy and what isn’t!)
3. Dropping your child off at the school gate
I’ve seen young children dropped off outside the school gate rather than their classroom door and I’m not really sure how I feel about it. The school is split into Infants and Juniors and they each have their own entrance so these children must be aged between 5-7? Maybe I’m an overprotective mother but I would always, always make sure my child was dropped off by their classroom door. It just doesn’t bear thinking about if something happened to them between the school gates and their classroom that I could have avoided just by getting out of the car and walking with them.
What bugs you about the school run?

![[AD] The sun has finally made an appearance and the boys have been making the most of it by spending it
in the garden.
They’re go-to is always football and they’ve been trying to improve their aim and accuracy with the new Messi Foldable Footlball goal from the #MessiTrainingSystem range.
I love the fact the goal is foldable, making it easy to store away when not in use. It is also lightweight so you can effortlessly pack it up and take it to the park or to a friend’s house.
The Messi Foldable Football Goal retails at £36 and can be purchased from @argos

The school run itself bothers me! It’s such a faff and takes a surprisng chucnk out of the day. The smoking hting annoys me and I din’t let my daughter take a scooter to school after she bowled another kid ovre in the playgorund. Taht was embarassing. #BrilliantBlogPosts
hahaha you’re right it IS a faff and definitely takes longer then it should. Especially attempting to get out of the door on time! I don’t allow E to scoot once we get inside the school gates – he has to push it over to the scooter park!
Smoking would absolutely bother me, and the rest too. Our school is a nightmare for cars pulling up where kids are crossing etc and I’m surprised something hasn’t gone wrong before now #brilliantblogposts
We also have an issue with cars at our school – maybe every school does? Thanks for commenting x
Ah for me it’s the car park. We have to drive to school as we live out of area but the car park is always jammed with the cars of people who live around the corner #brilliantblogposts
That must be really annoying! We are only a 10 min walk away luckily but I do drive sometimes (when it rains for example) and its so stressful!
I totally agree with all your points. The smoking thing really annoys me, especially on the school run, and I make a point of telling my children how unhealthy it is. I always speak rather loudly too, to ensure the smoker hears me. As for dropping kids off at the school gates I would never do that, especially at 5-7 years old. My eldest is now 10 and I’ve only just started letting him go into school alone. He is going up to High School in September so I guess I need to get used to it! Great post. Popped over from #BrilliantBlogPosts
I do really hate the smoking thing I just don’t think there is any need for it. Thanks for commenting! x
Oh I have all this to come! Thanks for linking up to #TheList x
At least you have a good while before you have to worry about all of this yet! I am struggling with the terrible twos atm! xx
The thing that bothers me most on the school run is people who drop their kids right at the school gates in their cars, park illegally on the double yellow lines, who 3 point turn right outside the school gate with kids on bike,s scooters and foot all nearby. People who drive to school in general when they live less than 1km away irritate me! #sundaystars
I know – that annoys me too! We get messages from school about it all the time as local residents complain. Can completely see where they are coming from too! x
eurgh the smoking would annoy me so much I have it near my kids, also the dropping off at the gates my daughters at nursery at the infant school I’ve seen a child be dropped off my her teen age sister at the gate and she proceeded to walk straight out and refuse to go to school she was 5/6 I was so concerned all i could think was where the hell is the parents!
Oh my really? Do the parents of these children not worry? I worry ALL the time about mine – especially in this day and age!
The smoking would annoy me intently too, I defiitely have all this to come in September #sundaystars
The smoking thing IS really annoying I just don’t understand why they can’t wait until after they have dropped their children off to school? x
Oh no! I can’t walk to our school as it is quite far but I can imagine how annoying this must be! Jess x #sundaystars
