Winter Wardrobe essentials

As winter is approaching (apparently, the UK forgets about summer) and autumn is usually over way faster than anyone likes—it’s about the right time for me to start looking at my wardrobe and getting ready for the change in seasons.

Away go the summer dresses, thin breezy outfits and sandals, and out come the layers, boots, and hooded fleece blankets. I’m shivering just thinking about it. But as the weather changes nearly hourly lately, it’s left me checking out my wardrobe to make sure everything I have kept from last winter is still in good condition for this year. I cannot be the only one who swears they’ve got everything they need, only to find that it actually won’t make it through another long British winter.

Considering the practicality of the upcoming season, I’ve curated a winter clothing wishlist. This list ensures I’m fully equipped for the cold, dark, and wet days that lie ahead.

Trainers

Everyone needs a new pair of trainers, and I have just realised that my current ones aren’t waterproof. Without new ones, I’m at risk of some seriously soggy walks this winter. Adidas has some great womens running trainers to choose from, even if the only running I will be doing is from the car to the house or to drop the boys off at one of their sports clubs!

Boots

For the past few winters, I’ve relied on a trusty pair of fleece-lined boots from Hotter. They’ve served me well, and I believe they’ll continue to do so. However, I’m excited about the prospect of adding a new style to my collection, one that’s versatile and suitable for everyday wear.

I have been looking at some ankle boots this year that can be worn with a variety of different outfits and give off a more casual vibe. I might check out Hotter again to see what they have on offer this year. I may even consider some womens walking boots for our winter woodland walks.

Chunky Knits

Everyone needs a good, warm, chunky knit item in their winter wardrobe, don’t they? As I work from home full time now with Mr H, keeping warm without having the heating on 24/7 is a must. And while we have some fab fleece blanket jumpers for the really cold days, a lovely chunky knit jumper or cardigan for when it’s not too cold but there’s still a bit of a chill in the air will be a great addition to my winter wardrobe this year.

Yours and John Lewis have a great selection of sweaters and cardigans, and I quite like the look of some of this winter’s chunky knits from Superdry, too. Essentially, I am after anything that keeps me warm while I spend my days working from our dining room table.

Coat

A good winter coat is essential, and over the past few years, I have typically opted for coats from Regatta or Land’s End because they’re really good quality. Their coats are not only stylish but also keep me warm and dry, which is crucial during the British winter.

This year, I might add a different style of coat to my collection, maybe a nice waterproof trench coat or a gorgeous Boucle coat, which I have seen from Kit and Kaboodle. I think that will make a nice, smarter option to go with my trusty winter waterproof jackets and be a great option for days out shopping or nights out, don’t you think?

That’s my winter wishlist for this year. To be honest, I don’t really need a lot, but I need a few updates and new items that can complement my current wardrobe and offer me that warmth and comfort I am looking for when the temperature drops. I’ve found that these items have been essential for me in the past, and I’m excited to see how they’ll enhance my winter wardrobe this year.

What’s on your winter clothing wish list for this year? I’d love to hear about your must-haves and any new styles you’re considering.
