If you like Massachusetts but don’t want to live in a city as large or crowded as Boston, you might think about Winthrop instead. It’s a great place for families, and if you have kids, you’ll also like the schools there. House prices also aren’t as prohibitive if you look at the mean average vs. Boston.

We’ll talk about what makes Winthrop so nice in the following article. It’s a gem, and you should consider it if you want to settle down with your family.

Winthrop boasts some excellent attractions

You can find great homes for sale in Winthrop, MA; many of them come with fenced-in backyards. Some come with multiple-car garages, and others come with central air and other amenities. Winthrop does not often get brutally hot during the summer, though you can expect some serious winters there. Your kids might enjoy making snow angels, so a colder winter climate isn’t all bad.

Winthrop also features some attractions that both tourists and locals love. For instance, you might head to Deer Island Harbor Park. You can see Boston from there and have amazing Atlantic Ocean views. You can sit on the shore and watch the whitecaps as you listen to the gulls crying.

The Island has many hiking trails and ample parking if you drive there. The park features mostly flat trails, so you can bring a stroller and walk with it if you have a baby or toddler. If you have older kids, you can bike with them on the trails and get some exercise.

You might also go to Winthrop Beach. You can swim there and cool off during the summer. It’s right next to Belle Isle, and a scenic walking trail is running alongside it that rivals Deer Island Harbor Park’s beauty.

What else can you do there?

Natural splendour isn’t all that Winthrop has going for it, though. Many adults also like the spa scene there.

Overworked parents can take a break from the kids and go to Serenity Massage Therapy and Bodywork. They do several different massage varieties and mainly cater to individuals dealing with old sports injuries or nagging aches and pains.

If you enjoy getting out on the water, you can take a Revolution Charters Boat Tour. You can spot all kinds of aquatic life, such as whales and dolphins, during certain months. You can also hear from the boat captains as they tell you about shipwrecks and ocean mysteries that abound in these waters.

Maybe you like to fish. Your whole family might get into it in Winthrop. You can look into Strike Sportfishing Charters. When you pay for a whole day on one of their watercraft, the crew will take you into waters where you’ll have a shot at enormous sportfish, such as bluefin tuna, striped bass, little tunny, bluefish, and smallmouth bass.

Foodies love Winthrop as well

You might also want to move the family to Winthrop if you love to eat. Foodies say there’s no place like it in the entire US.

For instance, you might start the week by visiting the Antique Table Restaurant. They have excellent old-world Italian fare, like hearty pasta and pizzas. You should also enjoy the artwork collection, with many original pieces you can contemplate as you eat.

Belle Isle Seafood is probably the best seafood spot in the entire town, and that’s really saying something. They have a new fresh catch feature every day, if not several of them. If you go there on a balmy summer night, you might enjoy an entrée like their lobster rolls, savoury chowder, or shrimp and clam feast.

D’Parma Restaurant is another winner. They also have Italian food, and their chicken cutlet is a speciality. The stuffed mushrooms and chicken spinach dish gets rave reviews, as does the pizza. They also have enormous portions, so bring your appetite.

If you want to reside close to Boston without actually having the big city headaches, such as the heavy traffic, Winthrop might work perfectly for you and your entire clan. You get a lot more house for the money than you would in Boston proper.

However, you’re not so far that you can’t commute if you must. In fact, you can get there by train in about 40 minutes in most instances. That way, you won’t have to drive and can maintain a job in Boston if you like.
