What to do when you can’t avoid shopping with kids
During these times of uncertainty and concern, it is more important than ever to be careful and cautious when venturing out in public. Leaving the house for essentials, such as a trip to the bank, going to work (for essential personnel), or to take care of your grocery shopping, have been deemed acceptable activities. But what do you do when you can’t avoid shopping with your kids? While taking care of the grocery shopping solo is the preferred option during this pandemic, some of us simply do not have the luxury of leaving our children at home every time we go to the store. Take a look at our tips for when you find yourself shopping with kids in tow.
Have a time limit
It can be tempting to grab everything you think you could possibly need and toss it in the cart. However, for those times when you do have your kiddos with you, set a time limit for yourself for how long you want to be in the store. Grab only the essentials and save your longer grocery list for the next time you can make the trip by yourself. Stick strictly to your list to ensure that you’re getting in and out of the store as quickly and efficiently as possible.
Bring sanitizer
Do your part to ensure that you are keeping your cart clean and sanitized. Many grocery stores are putting forth a valiant effort to keep a well-stocked sanitation station near the entrance of the store. However, it is still wise to keep a container of sanitizing wipes in your bag to clean off carts, credit card readers, door handles, and anything else you find yourself coming in contact with during your trip to the store. You’ll also want to keep some hand sanitizer nearby for yourself and your little ones. Coming prepared with a good stock of sanitizer is sure to lend some peace of mind during your trip to the grocery store.
Keep them close
We know that this can sometimes feel like a tall order, but is it more important than ever to keep your little ones nearby during your trip to the grocery store. Consider using a baby cart cover to keep your cart rider safe and comfortable, and if you have an infant, consider wearing a wrap or baby carrier while you’re out and about. Not only will this keep your baby as cosy and close to you as possible, but it leaves your hands free to get all of those essentials into the cart.
Above all, we understand that you’re doing the very best you can to keep your family safe and healthy and your home stocked with everything you need to thrive. More than ever, you are the glue holding your family together. So remember to give yourself some grace as you continue to brave through these uncertain times. You’ve got this!
