Paris Olympics 2024 – fun for the whole family
As you already know, my boys are really active and enjoy getting out and about playing sports. Cricket is their sport of choice as we gear up to watching The Hundred, but they generally love to be doing anything, whether playing football or cricket, riding bikes, or heading out to trampoline parks.
Both Mr H and I are trying to follow suit by being more active, something I wrote not too long ago. But we don’t just try to play sports; we’re also big fans of watching sports too. Cricket, as we mentioned, and we are really looking forward to the Olympics starting in Paris towards the end of this month.
I always find the Olympics to be a great way to expose the boys to new sports, get them engaged with the athletes participating, and show them the different types of activities they can try.
Luckily, we’ve got a decent-sized garden for them to get out, burn off some steam, and try a range of sports. Usually, Mr. H and I are usually roped into joining with them or refereeing to make sure things don’t get too out of hand!
If you want to get your kids involved in the Olympics next month and find ways to get them interested, we have a few ideas of things you can do.
Get Kitted Out
If you want to look and feel the part, whether it’s trying to see who is the fastest at the 100m sprint, who will triumph at table tennis or who is the most flexible at floor gymnastics, then you need to find the perfect kit to help you stay mobile and comfortable. Now the boys are getting older (particularly E), men’s tracksuits from the adidas Road to Paris Olympics Collection will be the perfect choice for their sporting endeavours this year and keep them kitted out, ready to take on any Olympic events they fancy trying.
Sweepstakes
Sweepstakes aren’t new; most people will have done this for the recent Euro 2024 football event. But as a family, why not draw sweepstakes from the countries involved and see who gets the most medals? You can devise the prize yourself for the winner, but it can be an excellent way to get everyone involved and watch the events as they cheer their chosen country on (we will still be cheering for England, of course, but this ups the competition a bit more, too!).
Guess The Sport
Another fun game for the whole family to try is guessing the sport! A bit like a Pictionary, you all pick a sport you need to reenact, and everyone else needs to guess it. There are 32 sports in the Summer Olympics for you to choose from, and then some of these categories have subcategories, too. For example, Aquatics covers swimming, marathon swimming, diving, water polo, and artistic swimming, giving you more options to choose from. Don’t forget your men’s or women’s running trainers if you’re reenacting any of the running events!
Watch Parties
If there is a certain event you want to watch or a qualifying heat you can’t miss, then why not have a “watch party”? You can make a big event and settle down and take in all the athletes as they battle for gold and achieve their dreams.
Give everyone notice and get themed snacks; French cuisine is essential, as Paris is hosting this year’s games. You can even get in your best sporting outfits, pull on your best athleisure gear and cheer on those you want to win while having some snacks, themed food and drinks and participating in some healthy competitions with family or friends.
These are some of my top ideas for getting the whole family involved in the Olympics this year and ensuring this pinnacle of sporting activity does not pass you by!
Will you be watching the Olympics? Will you be cheering for?
