Oh My Blog: Mum Edition with Dear Mummy Bear

Welcome back to the second month of Oh My Blog! A monthly interview series where fellow bloggers come together to answer a series of questions on a specific theme. This is a chance to get acquainted with a whole range of bloggers, some of whom you may not have heard of before, and learn a little more about them!

This month, the theme is “Mums” (because it’s Mother’s Day on Sunday 26 March) and we have Claire from Dear Mummy Bear answering some questions about her mum.

1. Introduce us to your mum. What’s her name? What does she do? Reveal her age if you dare!
My mum is called Lesley, she’s wonderful! She’s a single mum & she’s not had it easy I’ll be honest. She’s 46 in a few weeks!

2. What’s the one thing your mum always used to say to you?
She has always been proud of me throughout school and in my hobbies etc and even through my career & my jobs and one thing she’s always said is just to go for it and believe in myself. I’ve always been terrible with self-confidence but she will always give me the boost I need.

3. Someone’s playing your mum in a film. Who is it and why?
Ooh, toughie! I’d say Holly Willoughby (if that’s even possible, she is a TV star) because she’s such a funny, caring, family woman. She seems like the kind of person who would do anything for her family and likes to help out as much as possible elsewhere too and seems so down to earth and lovely.

4. She’s won the lottery. What’s the first thing your mum buys for herself?
Nothing she doesn’t buy much for herself haha! I joke erm maybe a slightly bigger car than her AYGO so she can have a better car seat and can take Bear around in it so in theory, it wouldn’t be for her haha!

5. What embarrassing story about you, does she always tell when you meet new people?
She doesn’t tend to tell any embarrassing stories actually. She does like to tell people about my labour but she’s not OTT with it or anything.

6. What are your plans for Mother’s Day this year?
I don’t have any yet as I’ve been so busy sorting out Bear’s 1st birthday. I really hope I’m going to a spa because that’s what I’ve hinted at but it’s not like my other half can get me that haha!

7. What’s her favourite TV show at the moment?
Pretty much the soaps, to be honest she doesn’t tend to watch series of stuff like I do. Though she likes the TV series like One Born Every Minute, Eat Well for Less etc.

8. What’s the biggest or most important thing that your mum inspired you to do?
She inspired me to just go for it. To go for my dreams and reach as far as I could. She’s always made me believe I can do whatever I set my mind to which is lovely!

9. Your round at the bar! What’s your mum drinking?
A J2O haha! If I persuade her, she may have a small glass of wine or a small brandy but she really doesn’t drink that much at all haha!

10. What’s the biggest difference between you and your mum?
I think we’re quite alike in so many ways! Maybe that I’m good with technology and knowing stuff like that?

11. Most important question of the lot. What is your mum’s stance on 50 Shades of Grey? Does she love it? Hate it? Not even know what it is?
She has never even seen it and doesn’t want to, or read it. She has absolutely no interest in doing so she has expressed numerous times ha!

12. What’s your favourite memory of your mum?
I have quite a clouded memory from my childhood in general but when she invited me to watch P!nk live with her and her boyfriend at the time, seeing her so happy that she was with us and watching her favourite music artist was just lovely!

13. What do you think your mum was like as a kid?
She was a new romantic with grey walls and yellow triangles so I feel like she was a lot like I was as a teenager. A bit of angst but didn’t really do much wrong or get into trouble much haha!

14. Cast your mind back a bit; what was the thing you did as a child or teenager that made your mum the angriest she has ever been with you?
Possibly when I was much younger (2nd or 3rd year of high school) and my friend had broken up with her boyfriend at the time and he then tried to start a relationship with me, we kissed a lot and that was mostly it haha! There was also the time when I had been banned from visiting my boyfriend for a week (he lived around the corner from school too and they felt I was spending too much time with him and not enough focussing on school etc) but I sneaked to his house nearly every dinner time that week, she found out of course haha!

15. Finally, what’s the BEST piece of advice your mum ever gave to you?
To follow my instincts, be myself, and if it doesn’t make me happy, it’s probably not worth it.
