Devon Holiday: The Big Sheep
Back in April over the Easter holidays (seems like a very long time ago now!) we spent a lovely week in North Devon where we stayed in a beautiful cottage with some good friends.
There are lots of family friends things to do in Devon but The Big Sheep was a name that kept cropping up. One of their newest attractions for 2016 is a rollercoaster called “The Big One”. Unfortunately, there were some technical problems with it on the day we visited but this did not impede us in any way as our boys are too you young (and a bit scared of huge rollercoasters) for it anyway.
The Big Sheep is well located for North Devon, near Bideford and is just off the A39. It started out as a sheep farm but over the years has changed and evolved and now includes rides and attractions as well as live shows.

We took a trip there and were excited to see what they had to offer. We arrived around 11 in the morning just as it was starting to get busy and were just in time for one of the live shows aptly named “The Sheep Show” where we were introduced to different breeds of sheep. It was great fun and the demonstrator John was on top form and managed to keep the kids enthralled as well as giving us adults a good giggle too.

After the show, we headed outside where E and Kathy’s girls (Hopes, Dreams and Chocolate) went to burn off some energy on the bouncy pillows.
Mr H and M wondered off to the Piggy Pull Along ride which essentially was a tractor pulling a line of piggies along. This was the favourite ride of the day for my boys. I lost count of the number of times M went on it.

The ponies were right by the bouncy pillows and cost just £1 and E was desperate to have a ride as were Kathy’s girls. It was very sweet seeing them in their riding hats.

Next up, we went to the lamb feeding show. This was a real highlight for the kids. Seeing all the baby lambs rush out to find their bottles and being able to feed them was just amazing. The boys absolutely loved this part and didn’t want to leave or give up their bottle and hand them over to the next person in line!

By now, we had worked up a bit of an appetite so we were keen to have some lunch. The Big Sheep has an onsite restaurant called Shepherds which sells a good variety of hot and cold food. E opted for a child’s lunchbox whilst the rest of us had some hot food and it came to a total of around £35 which I thought was pretty reasonable.
After lunch, The Big Sheep Railway was on the agenda – now if you are a regular reader then you will already know how obsessed my boys are with trains.
The Big Sheep Railway (Eweston Station) is located inside the animal barn and although there was a queue for the train the boys kept themselves entertained looking at the animals.

We spent a good 4/5 hours at The Big Sheep and could have spent longer but overall, we had a fantastic day out and was plenty to see and do. I can see why it’s won multiple awards for being one of the best places to visit in Devon because we had a blast!

If you are planning a trip to Devon I would highly recommend you visit. The weather was still a little chilly for us to fully enjoy all the outdoor activities but the great thing about The Big Sheep is that there are lots of indoor activities to keep you entertained as well as an indoor soft play. I can imagine it’s a real popular place to go in the summer months.

Tickets costs £13.95 for adults and children, children under 90cm pay £6.00 and children under 12 months go free. If you pre-book online you get 20% off the admission price.
Thank you so much to The Big Sheep for having us!
*We were invited to The Big Sheep in exchange for this post.

![[AD] The sun has finally made an appearance and the boys have been making the most of it by spending it
in the garden.
They’re go-to is always football and they’ve been trying to improve their aim and accuracy with the new Messi Foldable Footlball goal from the #MessiTrainingSystem range.
I love the fact the goal is foldable, making it easy to store away when not in use. It is also lightweight so you can effortlessly pack it up and take it to the park or to a friend’s house.
The Messi Foldable Football Goal retails at £36 and can be purchased from @argos

Ooh this place looks and sounds fab. I really like that there is so much to do despite whatever the weather has in store! The prices themselves aren’t to bad either. But best of all I’m glad you all had a wonderful time. Thanks so much for linking up at #KCACOLS. Hope you come back again next Sunday.xx
This looks like a brilliant day out Maria, and perfect for the kids. I really like places like this, as it allows children to get close to animals, as well as learning all about them, how to keep them etc. Plus the restaurant sounds great for all the family, this is what I search for when we go out to places – “Is the restaurant good?” When my little one is older and if we ever go to Devon, I will keep The Big Sheep in mind. Thanks so much for linking up a second post with us at #fortheloveofBLOG. Claire x
