Three incredible cities to visit in Georgia

Georgia is an incredible country that transports you into the past with its awe-inspiring medieval architecture and quaint little towns. The countryside in Georgia is equally as impressive; rocky mountains, luxurious beaches, huge caves and lush greenery all come together to make a truly beautiful country. But despite all that, it’s not a country that is hugely popular with tourists. It still attracts some visitors but not nearly as many as it should. That does mean that it isn’t too expensive though which is a bonus.

If you’re looking for somewhere a little different for your next trip, you should definitely consider Georgia. Here are some of the best places to visit while you’re out there.

Shekvetili

Shekvetili is a great little fishing village and sea resort on the coast of Georgia. It’s a great place to go if you’ve got the family with you because there’s an amazing theme park there. You can also visit the miniature park which is a peculiar attraction that showcases small-scale models of all of the landmarks in the country. If you can’t get to see all of them, the miniature park is the next best thing. While you’re there, you can stay at the Paragraph Resort & Spa Shekvetili. This incredible luxury hotel right next to the Pine Forest on one side and the Black Sea on the other has some great spa facilities for the ultimate relaxation experience.

Mtskheta

Some say that Mtskheta is the most important city in Georgia because it is the religious and spiritual heart. It is one of the oldest cities in Georgia at over 4000 years old and used to be the capital before it was changed to Tbilisi. The main attractions that you’ll find in Mtskheta are the three churches; Svetitskhoveli, Jvari, and Samtavro Monastery. You can book some great tours that will take you around the churches and explain their rich history to you. If you’re going to visit the churches, be aware that there is a strict dress code. Men cannot wear shorts or hats, and women need to be wearing something long and have their hair covered.

Tbilisi

Tbilisi took over from Mtskheta as the capital city of Georgia and is probably the most visited place in the country. The city sits on the bank of the Kura river in the shadow of some impressive hills and mountains. The city has a rich and varied history, and you can see this in its architecture. The best way to experience this unique city is to walk the streets, particularly in the old town area. You’ll find a great mixture of traditional, historical architecture and brand new modern renovations. The Narikala Fortress is one of the best attractions in Tbilisi where you’ll find a great vantage point with incredible views of the city below.
