CBD flower Vs. CBG lower: How do they differ?
The compounds found in the cannabis plant are known as cannabinoids. As of now, there are more than 113 cannabinoids found, and among them, only four have a biogenetic origin. THC or Tetrahydrocannabinol is the cannabinoid found the most abundantly, followed by CBD or Cannabidiol.
Besides the cannabis plant, people can also find cannabinoids in rhododendron, liquorice, and liverwort. Not only are cannabinoids available naturally, but companies can also make them synthetically. It is because nowadays, cannabinoids have also found their place in the medical industry, where they have become an ingredient for medicinal formulations like Dronabinol, Nabilone, Rimonabant, JWH-018, Dimethylheptylpyran, AM-2201, etc.
We will discuss two of the naturally occurring cannabinoids – CBD and CBG in this article. We will answer your queries on ‘what is cbg flower‘. Let’s begin.

How Can You Differentiate Between CBD And CBG?
Both CBD and CBG are cannabinoids and only have minor differences in their molecular structure and the amount present in the plant. Cannabidiol is a significant cannabinoid, while CBG is a minor cannabinoid. However, as we already know, CBD stems from CBG. Thus, CBG is the mother of all major cannabinoids in the cannabis plant.
What Is CBD?
The full name of CBD is Cannabidiol, one of the most abundantly found cannabinoids in the cannabis plant. For your information, CBD is the second most abundantly found cannabinoid in the plant after THC. Research has been done on CBD’s properties to help with anxiety, concentration, cognition, etc., in the year 2019. However, researchers needed help finding much information or evidence to support the claims.
Still, you will find brands marketing Cannabidiol products in the name of supplements. Besides using Cannabidiol for humans, tests show that CBD may help your pets with conditions like osteoarthritis and epilepsy. However, these claims require more research. Nevertheless, experts predict that the Cannabidiol industry will grow past $47 billion by 2028.
What Is CBG?
The full name of CBG is Cannabigerol, one of the 120+ cannabinoids in the cannabis plant. The parent molecule from which we get cannabinoids is cannabigerol acid. When you decarboxylate cannabigerol acid, you get cannabigerol. So the cannabinoid is a minor constituent of the plant.
During the growing stages of the cannabis plant, most of the CBG gets converted into CBD, THC, and CBN, leaving only 1 to 2% of cannabigerol inside the flower of the plant. However, certain strains of cannabis contain high quantities of CBG and cannabigerol acid but compromise THC and CBD levels. As a result, you can find brands selling CBG as a dietary supplement in the market. However, evidence is scarce when discussing the medical benefits of consuming CBG. Here are some of the differences when it comes to these flowers-
Price of CBD and CBG products
Cannabidiol Price
If we study the market prices, we will see that CBD oil prices start as low as $0.07 per mg and go up to as high as $0.20. However, the average price of oil is $0.10 per mg. CBD oil tinctures range from $0.4 to 0.20 cents; on average, people can buy these at $0.12 per mg. Cannabidiol topicals range between $0.20 and $0.30 per mg, and the average price is $0.25. The average price of CBD oil cartridges is $0.12 per mg. You can buy Cannabidiol concentrates at an average price of $0.05 and flowers at $0.03 per mg.
CBG Price
The market for CBG products is less than CBD. Because of this, we can’t get an average price for CBG products. However, we can see that 30 ml of CBG oil retails for around $65, 300 mg of CBG gummies for around $24, 1 oz of CBG isolate for around $30, and 60 CBG soft gels for $36.
The extraction processes
CBG Extraction
To extract CBG, manufacturers employ a process known as Cold Temperature Ethanol Extraction. There are four processes employed under this extraction process.
- First, the ethanol solvent has to chill to temperatures of -40 C
- Then the biomass is chilled in the ethanol solvent, extracting the cannabigerol acid. Then, after employing particulate filtration, suspended particulates get removed.
- A Falling Film Evaporator is employed to remove ethanol from plant crude oil.
- Then the raw acid is heated to liberate the bioavailable CBG. Using the Rolled Film Distillation, the CBG molecules get removed.
CBD Extraction
Manufacturers employ a process known as CO2 extraction for extracting CBD:
- The plant gets placed in a chamber filled with CO2.
- Due to the pressure, the carbon dioxide becomes liquid, absorbing the oil in the hemp plant. Ultimately we get a mixture of carbon dioxide and CBD.
- The liquid gets pumped through another chamber, where the CO2 becomes gas again.
The better one for edible
When comparing CBD and CBG, we can conclude that CBD has more variety in terms of edibles than CBG. Thus, if you wish to have the best possible taste, CBD should be your choice. In addition, CBG has more potency for the required effects than CBD, but the amount of research on Cannabidiol is far more than CBG. SO, Cannabidiol is better when it comes to edibles. Thus, you get to know what you are consuming properly.

Are Both CBD And CBG Legal?
CBD and CBG are legal in most states in the USA after passing the 2018 farm laws. The laws state that cultivators can grow hemp and produce hemp-derived products. However, these cultivators need to have a license, and the products shouldn’t contain more than 0.3% of THC by dried weight because THC is a psychoactive compound, and you can find cases of overdosing on THC and adverse side effects.
Some US states have given full legal status to the products. However, some states have restrictions on buying, selling, and possessing products containing cannabinoids, and some have entirely banned the products. The states that have banned cannabinoids include Idaho, Nebraska, and South Dakota. Thus, you should know the local laws and only then buy these products.
Final words
The CBD industry has been growing at a rapid rate. Statistically, around 33% of all adult Americans have used Cannabidiol products at least once. The top-selling state is California, and the overall growth of CBD product sales is exponential. Current consumer sales of the products stand at $1918, according to Statista.
As the industry of CBG Flower grows, more and more players will enter the domain. As more and more people get to know the benefits of cannabinoids, the quality assurance and safety standards of companies will also skyrocket. However, experienced vendors will always have the upper hand due to their network, prices, and loyal customer base. Remember to consume these products responsibly, take care of the dodge, and never go beyond your limits.
