For most of us, a family holiday usually consists of time spent splashing in the pool or on the beach making sandcastles, and while there is nothing wrong with that, sometimes we want to do something that’s a little more memorable. Maybe a once-in-a-lifetime experience or visiting places where you can experience how to live like a local. Exposing children to different cultures and experiences is a great way to show them how diverse the world is and for them to fully embrace all the perks that travelling has to offer – not to mention all the things they can learn.

Here are some ideas of alternative destinations to holiday as a family that you may not have considered before.

Croatia

With beautiful beaches that has crystal clear water and shallow bays, Croatia offers the best of both worlds – time to relax at the beach and time to explore. There are ancient towns to explore, and museums to visit with plenty of open space for children to run around in. It’s without a doubt one of the emerging destinations for Europe tours.

India

For an unforgettable travel experience, India will certainly fit the bill. Ride on tuk-tuks, go on a tiger safari or explore the country on an epic train journey you can even hop on a cruise. There are temples and fortresses take in, and you can even go dolphin spotting and try your hand at kayaking. India will mesmerise and amaze with its dramatic scenery.

Morocco

Less than four hours away from London, Morocco is a bright and colourful country that is home to bustling medieval cities and majestic mountainscapes. Kids will find the souqs that are full of saffron and gold fascinating. Head to High Atlas for mountain walks, Essaouira for camels rides and horse-drawn carriage rides in Marrakesh.

Thailand

From hidden temples to bustling cities and local markets, there’s plenty to see and do for families in Thailand. There are also tropical islands, beaches and rainforests to explore.
