About us

One suburban mum, two boys, a husband, lots of cake, tea, good food and family days out. Suburban Mum blog focuses on all these points and more as I, Maria, navigate life in Surrey with two growing boys. Thank you for joining us, and I hope you enjoy seeing what we get up to.

Maria

Hi, I am Maria, the “mum” in Suburban Mum. I’m a full-time working mum. Currently, I work from home as a Designer and squeeze blogging in when I can.

I have always loved being creative. I went to Art College and have a degree in Graphic Design. I started this blog because I enjoy writing and wanted my own space on the internet. As an outlet, it has allowed me to develop my skills and get creative in many ways, many of which you can see in my various blog posts.

What else do I enjoy? I love finding new gadgets and using tech to help me live my life or enjoy time with my family. I will never say no to diving into a new series on Netflix or bingeing on new shows or movies; Marvel is a firm favourite in this house, as are Cobra Kai and The Umbrella Academy.

I have also become a cricket fan in recent years, thanks to the boys taking it up in 2023. We love catching a match or two during cricket season.

I can often be found with a cup of Earl Grey – tea is my drink of choice. I also enjoy baking cakes for special birthdays, hosting BBQs with my family and friends and celebrating Eurovision every year!

Mr H

Mr H owns his own Design Agency and is the Creative Director. We both work from home side by side, so we spend a lot of time in each other’s company. In fact, we are together pretty much 24/7 these days and have managed to find a routine that works for us both to get work done and live within the same four walls every day.

Mr H loves his coffee, watching sports and sci-fi. Like the boys and myself, loves theme parks, getting out and exploring new places.

E

E is my eldest son, a May baby like both mum and dad, and he is about to embark on his GCSE year in school. Like any typical teenager, he can be found glued to his devices, namely on Snapchat on his phone or playing Fortnite or Planet Coaster on either the PS5 or his laptop.

However, life isn’t just about screens. We manage to pry him away (sometimes), and when we do, he has a passion for cricket where he plays for our local team as well as theme parks; the bigger the coasters, the better, as far as he’s concerned.

M

M is ready to begin his secondary school journey this September (2024). He loves a good documentary, especially if its about aeroplanes or food. He’s a big foodie and aspires to become a chef when he’s older.

Like his brother, he’s a thrill seeker and is obsessed with theme parks – even more so now that he’s finally tall enough to ride some of the bigger rides, so he’s not left out! He also loves cricket (playing for the same team as E) and will never say no to a kickabout with a football.

Our family

As our family changes and evolves as the boys get older, we are making it a priority to do as many things together as possible while we can. Usually, this involves days out here and there in our local area and beyond, but one thing we still love as a family, as you have probably noticed, is visiting theme parks. Some of our favourites include PortAventura in Spain, Disneyland Paris and Hansa-Park in Germany. We’ve also been to most of the theme parks across the UK and live locally to both Chessington and Thorpe Park.

We enjoy travelling and exploring new places together and will continue to do this as much as possible as life and teenagers allow.

At home, we love to enjoy good food and indulge in family gaming sessions. Although Mr H isn’t quite ready to hand over his gaming crown, the boys are ready to swoop in and take it from him.
