Travel: Life Lessons for Children
Travelling is one of the great joys of life, and it’s important for everyone, no matter what their age, but travelling with children is a vital experience that will teach them many life lessons that they will need throughout their lives. One of the most important lessons for modern life is the tolerance of other religions and cultures, which seems to be severely lacking in the world today. That is because parents do not pay much attention to teaching their kids properly about integrity and other religions. In order to do this, there are many ways to start with. One way to properly teach your child about religion is through daily talks and prayers, another way is can be a free vacation bible school curriculum which is a helpful method of teaching them spiritual habits. However, this is by no means the only important aspect and so let’s take a look at 5 life lessons children learn from travelling with their parents or guardians.
Curiosity
Children have an innate sense of curiosity. They are constantly trying to find new things and wondering how things work which usually leads to them hurting themselves or breaking something. When travelling, the whole endeavour is about discovery, sharing this and encouraging it with your child will mean they grow to find an appreciation of learning new things.
Resourcefulness
Some people don’t have an ounce of resourcefulness in their bodies and that’s why it’s so important for children to learn this, which leads to being independent. Travelling throws so many obstacles and issues at you that you need to be resourceful to get through it all. Your kids see you solving problems and finding your way around obstacles and it inspires them to do the same – in the same way a baby bird learns to fly by watching their parents.
Adaptability
Learning to adapt is an essential skill as it means you will always be prepared to up and leave when needed. Life isn’t constant and if you get too stuck in routines, you will never evolve as a person and become the success you deserve to be. Kids especially love routine, however, they are also more susceptible to change so by taking them out of their comfortable routine and going on holiday, they learn how things change and that nothing remains constant in this world.
Self-Confidence
Many people claim to lack self-confidence and they say how much it holds them back in their life. They feel they can’t forge new relationships or make progress in their life and this is why it’s such an important life skill. Forcing children into a situation where they have to be independent and learn new things grows their self-confidence and going travelling is a perfect opportunity for this.
Critical Thinking
People underestimate the importance of critical thinking. This is the reason why Literature is such an important subject to study because it teaches us how to think critically which we can then apply to our own lives. It’s not just about problem-solving, it’s more about thinking truly and deeply about ourselves, religions, politics, and world events. Being able to study these things is one of the most important (if not the most important) life skill and travelling is a great way to foster this within children. They get to experience a new way of life and it leads to them asking questions and learning. By doing this they learn to analyse and think deeper about the world.
These are the reasons why travelling is so important for children – what do you think?
