My top 3 Tips for choosing comfortable work from home outfits
Now that both Mr. H and I work from home, we need to be comfortable. Gone are the days of dressing up for the office; we can both choose to wear clothes we can relax in and don’t restrict ourselves while we’re working.
As we both predominantly work from our dining room table, we are lucky enough to be able to work in our pyjamas if we want, but I don’t think that would work when taking M to school in the morning, would it?
If you’re in need of some comfortable yet still stylish clothing options like these comfortable men’s trousers from Chums, then read on for some tips and ideas for cultivating the perfect, comfy work-from-home attire that doesn’t require you to be business-on the top and chill on the bottom for those just in case zoom calls your boss or client might surprise you with.
Why should you still wear smart clothing working from home?
While you might want to be comfortable, it is still a good idea not to work from home in your uber-casual loungewear or even just your PJs; just because you’re not leaving your home doesn’t mean you shouldn’t get dressed.
Putting on a “work outfit”, even if it isn’t formal business attire, can help you to separate your work and home life and boost your mental health too. It also allows you to look professional in an instant should you be called upon for any reason via video calls or even have clients drop by the house. On top of this, “dressing for work” will help you get in the right mindset and not put off what you need to do.
My 3 Top Tips for Comfortable Home Office Clothes
Elasticated
Elasticated waistbands are the way forward when it comes to work-from-home outfits. The last thing you want is to be restricted by buttons digging in or belts that cut you in the middle while you’re sitting down trying to watch This Morning, I mean emailing clients.
Look for bottoms with elasticated waistbands that move with you and offer you more comfort without compromising on quality, style, or even that business look. For men, you can get elasticated waist trousers for business smart bottoms; for women, you can opt for jeggings or leggings that can be paired with smart tops or blazers, or you can opt for elasticated dresses if you wish.
Loose or Baggy
Again, much like you don’t want tight pants digging into you as you work, you don’t want your whole outfit to be restrictive, either. Choose items that have a bit more room in them and are loose and baggy while still being business smart or business call if you require this. If not, then choosing oversized t-shirts, linen trousers, stretchy dresses, etc., can help you still stay comfortable while dressing for work.
Natural Fibres
Natural breathable fibres like cotton, viscose, linen and wool are all ideal fabrics for working from home in comfort. This is because they are breathable and easy to wear, meaning you don’t get as irritated or even hot and sweaty with that laptop perched on your knee or sitting in the window with the blazing sun heating you up.
So there we go, my 3 top tips for comfortable work-from-home clothes and how you can work in comfort from your desk, dining table or knee while rewatching your favourite box set without being restricted in formal clothing that doesn’t pair well with home life or productivity!
