Removing the headaches from moving home
Want to know what’s stressful? Moving home. Want to know something a little more stressful? Moving home with a family in tow! Why is this? Well with moving home there is simply so much going on at all times, and there are so many moving parts! There is money involved, there are memories involved, and there are people involved. The idea of moving home might be enough to give you a migraine if you’ve experienced it before. Fear not, though – there are plenty of ways to remove the stress from moving home – so if you’re planning on moving into a new property, it pays to be proactive.
Here’s how you can do just that.
The first thing to do is gear your family up about moving home. This removes a bit of worry and stress and tunes up the excitement. Moving home is an adventure and it should be fun! A lot of hassle comes with it, but most people are moving home for positive reasons – to expand on space, or to get cosier! There’s nothing wrong with this – it is just the fact that admin work gets in the way. When doesn’t it? If you’ve got a family, especially youngsters – reassure them, cuddle them and tell them that this is going to be a big adventure. You need your family on your side and working just as hard as you throughout the move.
When the date of the move is agreed – get on the phone straight away. You’ll be calling a bunch of people and it is better done sooner than later, for obvious reasons. Who will you be calling? Firstly it will be a moving or removal service such as Shiply’s Van Service who you can book in to transport your goods for you to your new home. Secondly, it will be family and friends to inform them of the good news and ask for a bit of help and finally – it will be everything else. You need to let your employers, postal services, utility providers, bank and the government know that you are moving. In many cases this is your legal responsibility – so do it as soon as possible. Break it down over a few days if it’s getting a bit too much.
Next up, is the clear-out and packing. Clean the home from top to bottom and throw out ANYTHING that you don’t need. This could be plates or even furniture. Try to sell things as well. This clear out will help you pack, so get your boxes sorted, label them and pack away. Start with the little things, then move towards the big essentials. Put snacks, food water and toiletries in a ‘go-bag’ so you’re not left high and dry in your first day in the new home.
It’s a big ask, but if you allow two days for each task here – you’ll be done with EVERYTHING in just under a week. That’s a great way to remove headache and if there’s a month until your move, everything is on your side and there should be minimal stress!
